- Balcony greenhouse ">Balcony greenhouse
Plants that normally live on our balcony and are more sensitive to harsh temperatures when the cold becomes bitter, must be stored in greenhouses that we can easily buy in the best plant and DIY stores without spending excessive amounts. We are spoiled for choice with a vast range of models that stand out not only for shape and size, but also for functionality and can satisfy every need. Usually the greenhouses we buy are made up of a steel structure with anti-rust treatment, a PVC cover with UV filter to protect them from the sun's rays, the hinged closure and are very easy to assemble. Inside the greenhouse it will be very useful to put a thermometer in order to keep under control the temperature which, if too high, will be lowered by partially opening the hinge and, if too cold it will be enough to insert a simple lighted light inside it to give heat.
Isn't there the possibility of putting a small greenhouse on our terrace? Don't worry, just build one vertically along the wall. It involves creating a metal structure to be fixed to the balcony wall and then, subsequently, covering it with plastic sheets or rigid transparent polycarbonate. The mini greenhouse will be divided by shelves on which we will put our pots. First of all we will have to identify the wall close to our home which will be as repaired as possible and, after having obtained some dowels, a drill and sufficient shelves to support our pot holders, we will begin the work by fixing the dowels on which we will rest the shelves where to place our plants on top that will have to stay in the greenhouse to be sheltered from bad weather and cold. At this point we will pull a transparent nylon sheet fixing it to the highest shelf that we have left empty and we will stop it in the lower part (the one that touches the ground) with stones to prevent it from rising in the event of wind but guaranteeing sufficient softness to to allow the air to circulate internally. To guarantee our plants the best possible conditions, every day in the central hours, we will open the greenhouse to air it so that no molds are created that would be harmful but, if one of our plants presents some veil of mold, you will have to be careful to leave the plant in the open for at least a day and then put it back indoors in the evening.
