How to make harmonious and well-made artificial flower compositions for furnishing or decorating. Tips for choosing and combining the different types of flowers.

Uses, types and costs

A composition of artificial flowers, if harmonious and well done, can be a piece of furniture or a gift of rare beauty and sure usefulness. Fake flowers, as we know, are particularly versatile and able to meet the tastes of almost all women, from classic to minimalist. No one has ever missed the opportunity to place one of those flowers in the most appropriate way and place, placed on gift packs and various packages, thus enhancing an empty vase or furnishings, a centerpiece or a tablecloth, sometimes using it also as a decorative accessory of a hairstyle or a dress. Furthermore, the compositions of artificial flowers can define the style of a house and complete the furnishing of a corner or a wall. First of all, it will be necessary to know how to choose the type of flower based on the context in which it will be placed. There are, in fact, an infinite number of types of fake flowers. From those that seem real to those stylized, from those of fabric to those of glass, plastic or rattan, from those glittered or enriched with rhinestones and sequins, to those of the dried flower type, etc. In short, a vast assortment to choose from considering that the costs for each branch can vary, even a lot, based on the size, quality or brand of the product, the presence of more or less valuable materials and so on.

Compositions for furnishing

Wanting to create a composition of artificial flowers the first thing to ask is for what purpose we do it. If the goal is to furnish a corner of the house or terrace, fill a vase or the like, you must first choose a type of fake flowers that, in terms of color shades and materials, are in line with the environment to be enhanced.

- Minimalist or modern environments, where usually one color or two at most predominates (often white, black or gray), require the combination of one or two colors in contrast with those of the walls and to avoid, absolutely, rainbows or the jumble of many colors and too many flowers.

- It is better to always put together a few branches, of one or two flowers each, but well chosen and well made, categorically avoiding the kitsch effect of the "too fake" which is typical above all of those artificial flowers that pretend to faithfully follow the real ones . The difference will always be noticed and the excessively plastic effect will be unpleasant to the eye. Better artificial flowers that are deliberately an alternative to real ones, as long as they are well made.

How to choose and compose artificial flowers

- Always choose the pieces in order to create a harmonious and balanced composition. On the one hand, it is therefore necessary that the branches are chosen of various lengths in order to better combine them and create movement. On the other hand, the choice of the main flowers must always be accompanied, that is, those that we want to be noticed more, with a second type that has the purpose of being the background to the first ones. Therefore, for example, two or three flower branches will be enhanced if placed in front of a dozen thin branches or canes of an opposite or shaded color compared to that of the main flowers. We also try to combine flowers that have a conceptual homogeneity between them. A poinsettia and an orchid in the same composition would be not very harmonious. The same poinsettia combined with a butcher's broom and enriched with a base of pine twigs will be balanced.

- We place the compositions in furnishing or exclusive design vases. Using them to host an artificial composition will make more sense given their particularity. It is important to assemble the composition before putting it in the jar or packaging it. The advice is to place everything you need on a table and proceed, first of all, with the arrangement of the back. That is, let's start with the reeds, the longer and simpler branches or whatever will be the background for the main flowers. Then we place, from highest to lowest, the flowers in question, avoiding placing them on the same optical line. The ideal is to arrange them in a staggered manner and combine them with each other also according to the shades of color. Then we stop the flowers with the help of a bit of transparent fishing line or string in tone with the color of the stems. We block the flowers in the final position that we intend to give to the composition: it will avoid the inconvenience of seeing them slide into the vase and will allow you to create a tight bunch and therefore easier to cover with paper, nets or decorative ribbons. It is preferable to buy flowers with long stems that lend themselves to multiple uses and that can be shortened at any time by simply cutting them.

Artificial flower compositions: Compositions for bouquets or small objects

If, on the other hand, with artificial flowers we want to create a bouquet or a small composition that serves as a decoration for another object, without prejudice to the above, it will be more appropriate to use flowers with smaller stems equipped with leaves that can cover the point where the bunch will be stopped by the string. Let's not exaggerate with bows and bows in the handle part. The flowers we have chosen (better few but particular and well made), if well ordered and chromatically in harmony with each other, will appear in all their beauty without the need for further frills.
